The last day of the liturgical calendar is Reign of Christ or Christ the King Sunday. This festival was established by Pope Piux XI in 1925 in the aftermath of World War I. On this final Sunday of the church year, we remember that our first and foremost allegiance is to Jesus, not to a nation.
