Summer Patio Series
2026 Book
|
Join the St. Michael's women for the Summer Patio Series, a time for small group connection and conversation! For five sessions this summer, small groups will gather to discuss The Great Belonging by Charlotte Donlon, author and spiritual director.
"Loneliness has reached epidemic proportions, according to many sources. In an age of mobility and fraying civic life, we are all susceptible to its power. But what if loneliness is a necessary part of the human condition? What if it is a current that leads us deeper into belonging--to ourselves, to each other, and to God? In The Great Belonging, writer and spiritual director Charlotte Donlon reframes loneliness and offers us a language for the disquiet within. Instead of turning away from the waters of loneliness for fear they will engulf us, she invites us to wade in and see what we find there. In vulnerable, thoughtful prose, Donlon helps us understand our own occasional or frequent loneliness and offers touchpoints for understanding alienation." Small groups will meet 5 times over the course of the summer on either Wednesday, Thursday, or Sunday evenings. The small group sign up and discussion guides for each meeting will be listed below. A kick-off party will be held on June 7th at 6:00 p.m. at Sue Thompson's home in Shoreview (bring your swimsuit if you want to take a dip in the pool!) Please contact the church office for Sue's address. |
How to join a small group:
- Use the sign up links below or wait to join a group at the kick off party. Small group sizes are intentionally sized so that meaningful conversation is possible.
- Commit to your small group throughout the summer. Book reading is only part of the goal for this patio series - relationship building is the core of small groups, so prioritizing your group's meeting throughout the summer is essential!
