Adult Education

At St. Michael’s, we believe that developing a mature faith is a life-long journey, knowing that questions, doubts, and discoveries are a part of learning and growing in faith. The Adult Education program is designed to challenge, stretch, and deepen our faith as it is lived out in our homes, workplaces, and world.

Religion in Life - September through May

Religion in Life is a Sunday morning learning opportunity for adults during the program year. We host excellent speakers in various fields as they explore personal, social, Biblical, and ethical issues and invite conversation regarding how faith can inform and shape our responses to them.

This fall we will be hosting Religion in Life online due to the pandemic. Lectures will be posted on our website and YouTube channel starting September 13th.

 Faith in Daily Life
Meaningful Lunch Conversations

The Wednesday Faith in Daily Life lunch conversations meet from 12:00-1:00 p.m. There are currently two groups meeting, one on the first Wednesday of the month and one on the third Wednesday of the month.  Both are meeting on-line using Zoom.

This winter and spring we will be reading Jesus and John Wayne:  How White Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith and Fractured a Nation.  Over the course of the last 100 years we have seen the movement of White Evangelicals as a significant faction in the United States and the development and mobilization into a voting bloc in politics.  There are roots in anti-intellectualism, anti-elitism, and push back against the social gospel movement of the late 1800s and early 1900s.  In Jesus and John Wayne, Kristin Kobes Du Mez explores the ideas and movement that have propelled this phenomenon in American civil, religious, and political life.  Join in conversation as we discuss this book and how we can learn, converse, and strive to heal a fractured nation.

Please join us - and jump in any time! All are welcome.

Thursday Morning Bible Study
9:30-10:30 a.m.
September-May

Having read Anna Carter Florence’s book, Rehearsing Scripture, in the fall, we will jump into reading lectionary texts for the upcoming Sunday as we engage the texts and practice reading, rehearsing, and discussing scripture together.  Here are the texts for January and February and the meeting dates for the winter/spring.

Women’s Circles
September - June

Women's circles are a wonderful way to connect, build relationships, and join others in conversation and study. Normally, the Sarah Circle meets the first Tuesday of every month at 9:30 a.m. and Elisabeth Circle meets the first Wednesday of each month at 1:00 p.m.

Due to the pandemic, the Sarah and Elisabeth Circles will not continue with a planned study this year. However, we will gather for a September social gathering for those who feel comfortable meeting in-person as weather permits.

The Sarah Circle will meet on September 15th at 9:30 a.m. and the Elisabeth Circle will meet on September 16th at 1:00 p.m. Both groups will meet on the church patio outside of the fellowship hall.

If it is raining/storming, we will cancel the circle gathering.

Desserters II
Book Discussion Group

This fall Desserters II, the St. Michael's book discussion group, will desert the usual meeting place at church and gather together via Zoom.
The group will meet on the fourth Tuesdays of the month at 7:00 pm. More details about connecting to the Zoom meetings will be announced in September. Welcome to all!
