Reconciling in Christ
LGBTQIA+ Welcoming and Affirming
St. Michael's values the presence and gift of LGBTQIA+ persons as leaders and members of our congregation.
Knowing that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer persons and their families have been excluded and harmed in many places (the church included), we are committed in our welcome and affirmation of those in the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as ongoing learning and advocacy of social and theological issues. |
St. Michael's Welcome Statement
St. Michael’s Lutheran Church lives out God’s grace and love for all people. Faithful to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we welcome those who have been part of church communities, those who have no previous church experience, and those who have felt excluded by the Church because of their race or ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, physical or mental capabilities, financial resources, or family circumstances. In this witness we seek reconciliation, healing, and wholeness. As a diverse people we are then empowered by the Holy Spirit to live and work together for God’s promised day of justice, peace, and mercy. In Christ’s love, we welcome you!
About the Reconciling In Christ Program
Since 1974, ReconcilingWorks: Lutherans for Full Participation has advocated for the full welcome, inclusion, and equity of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) Lutherans in all aspects of the life of their Church, congregations, and community. The Reconciling in Christ (RIC) Program is for congregations, synods, colleges, seminaries, and other Lutheran organizations and ministry communities who have made a public commitment to welcome, include and celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) people.
